Objectives: The purpose of this review was to elaborate on the role of the immediate dentinal sealing technique in reducing hypersensitivity after indirect bonded restoration placement. Materials and Methods: A PubMed literature search was conducted using the search terms “immediate dentin sealing” AND “dual bonding technique” AND “resin coating technique” AND “prehybridization”. The search was restricted to studies published between 1 January 2010 and 1 November 2022. A total of 31 papers were found as a result of the PubMed search. After the exclusion of irrelevant or duplicated articles, 15 articles were included in this review. Results: The results strongly indicate that the immediate dentine sealing technique (IDS) improves the bonding strength between indirect restoration and tooth as compared to conventional delayed dentinal seal. Conclusions: IDS is a sealing adhesive technique that reduces post-cementation hypersensitivity and improves adhesion for indirect restoration, especially in those indirect restorations in which hypersensitivity is more common after cementation and retention are difficult to achieve such as porcelain laminated veneer.
